Face Trouble

This face is driving me crazy. I’ve repainted it a dozen times…I’m doing it from a picture but it’s really hard…She looked bored until I made her cry, now it’s getting better. That was a year ago. I still haven’t finished this painting… but I will this winter. My good designer friend ridiculed this piece as some bizzare male power pro-war crying weak woman fiasco. Not my intention; I was aiming at another Adam/Eve polarity creation symbolism. And I’ve also wanted to paint me with big wings a gun.

Mediocre brilliance

I used to say, I want to be a mediocre painter with brilliant ideas… like one of my heroes, surrealist Magritte. Unfortunately, I’m still a little too mediocre. Something about my style just seems…incomplete or sloppy. I just finished these two paintings. The idea, of both I think, is genius. But the paintings are just kind of lack-luster. I wish I could say I’m getting better, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I think I do much better with simplistic, solid color backgrounds and a rough, impressionistic style. Actually – the truth of it is that I’m very …

March Paintings

My apartment is a disaster zone and I have two presentations to do tomorrow (Zeus and Marx), but I’m painting! I’ve got about 10 blank canvases, 4 sketched canvases, and 5 half finished paintings. It’s going to be a busy few months. Many of these are much bigger than I’m used to but I’m doing OK. Big Goals: Redo my painting website and get an exhibition in Taiwan before summer!
